In the third quarter of 1999, the first eight-processor machines using 550MHz Pentium III Xeon processors appeared. In the fourth quarter of 1999 or the first quarter of 2000, we should see a Pentium III Xeon processor (code-named Cascades) running at 700MHz or more. Cas- cades will also have a 133MHz Front-Side Bus (FSB), which connects the CPU to memory. Current FSBs run at 100MHz. After Cascades come the 64-bit processors: Merced, Mckinley, and Foster.
